Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction) – St. Louis
Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts typically caused by a hormonal imbalance, affects about 50% of all men; however; nearly 80% of teen boys affected by gynecomastia, will see a resolution by their early 20’s. If the condition persists, gynecomastia, or ultrasonic liposuction, performed by Dr. Koo, is an extremely effective way to reduce breast size without significant scarring.
Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction) Procedure
Since male breast reduction generally removes much less volume than a female breast reduction, the incisions I make can usually be limited, reducing visible scarring.
WithGynecomastia surgery, I typically implement a combination of surgical excision and liposuction to correct enlarged male breasts. I incision I make is generally made around the areola (dark skin surrounding the nipple) and excess fat and tissue are removed. In more severe cases, a small ¼ inch incision is made at the base of the breast, and I use liposuction to remove any stubborn pockets of fat. A benefit of usually having no extra skin to remove is that scarring is at a minimal and satisfaction rates are high. If excess skin does need to be removed to ensure the best results, more significant scarring may occur.
Candidates for Male Breast Reduction
Candidates for this procedure are any man that feels uneasy with his breast size, a man who is in good health (physically and emotionally), and typically a man with firm, elastic skin that will reshape well to the new contour of his body.
